Theatre Resume Submission
Please prepare two contrasting pieces not to exceed five minutes combined. Pieces must be memorized.
You may present two monologues or a monologue and a song. The audition will take place prior to a virtual interview.
Prior to performing, please include a slate (your name and the selections you're performing - only including the name of the character, title of the play and playwright's name)
Monologues should be contrasting - contemporary material is preferred but not required
Musical theatre pieces should show range and vocal quality. They may be from contemporary or standard musical theatre literature
Submissions with original (unpublished) work, stand up comedy or a piece that sounds like stand up comedy, or material from screenplays may
not
be considered.
Choose pieces similar to your own age and experience
Avoid using materials specifically written for monologue books or songs contained in musical theatre anthologies.
General Tips
You may obtain help from your high school theatre teacher or coach to prepare
Look for pieces that speaks to you, which you deeply connect, love and can't wait to perform
Read the entire play and understand your character in the context of the play
Know what the piece means, what all the words mean and how to pronounce them
Vocalists should warm up prior to auditioning
Please prepare to present a portfolio that indicates the variety and caliber of your work in fine arts or theatre. Presentations should be no more than five minutes. The portfolio may include:
Elevations, ground plans, or renderings created by you
Photographs of your ongoing process and the final product (costumes, scenery, props, etc)
Should include research involved in process
Stage manager's prompt book created by you
Materials from realized productions or classroom projects
General Tips
Please use quality photos with the best lighting
Do not use flash photography or production photos if possible, we would like you to recreate the audience's experience
One or two quality photos can be more impactful than many small photos
You may include evidence of skills related to theatre; visual arts, graphic design, costume building, music, film, sound recording, editing, photography, etc.
Our faculty recognizes that many students have not been able to extensively document their experience. We encourage students to interview with what they have available. Passion, commitment, creative problem solving and imagination can be as important as extensive experience.
After submission, you will be contact by a member of our Theatre Department to schedule your virtual audition or portfolio review.
We are looking for students who are well read, possess a variety of interests, and come to us with an array of experiences and talents. We want to get to know you - be yourself! We want to know why theatre is important to you and why the arts are a part of your world. Tell us what you really think, not what you think we want to hear.
Please take note of your lighting, background and where you place your camera to ensure the Theatre Arts faculty can see and hear you clearly and without distraction.
